Hampson Park in Stevenage has a 24-acre green space with football pitches & trails, plus a skate park, multi-use court & playground.
The park is named to honour Stevenage resident, Thomas Hampson.
He won an Olympic Gold medal in the 800 meters in 1932 in the Los Angeles Summer Olympics. This set a new world record. At the same event, Thomas won a Silver medal in the men’s 400-meter relay.
Hampson moved to Stevenage in 1954 where and took up the position of Social Relations Officer in the first town council, the Stevenage Development Corporation.
